I love to give my learning environment a really French Christmas feel - even my older students appreciate it. With my younger learners, it’s not about learning all the French Christmas vocabulary (30 is too many for young beginners), it’s about giving them daily opportunities to engage with the French language through guessing and spelling games, pronunciation practices and so on. I’ve included a selection of both generic Christmas words, such as bauble and Christmas tree, as well as more Francophone-specific words, such as Père Fouettard and la galette des Rois.

It doesn’t matter if some of the words don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the flashcards / posters provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in French, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French.
Use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating.
There are two backgrounds to choose from: blue winter or snow, so 60 posters / flashcards in total. They are in portrait A4 (8.5x11) format. I definitely recommend that you print on card stock and/or laminate for longevity - you’ll be able to display your French Christmas posters and use them as flashcards to introduce French Christmas words, as well as discuss similarities and differences in Christmas customs, for years to come!

ideal for Primary French and KS3 French My students love to do these word searches around Christmas time - we do them several times in the run up to Christmas - they really are great for developing reading, writing and spelling in French - and engaging with French Christmas vocabulary too - my older students really enjoy them too. There are 30 French Christmas words, which helps them to develop awareness of some Francophone Christmas traditions and figures, such as Saint Nicolas and Père Fouettard. I also use this as a prompt to stimulate discussion about French Christmas practices and customs, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too.
Word searches are really easily differentiated: there are 5 French to French grids, as well as an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test. There are also 5 English to French grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and learners have to find the French equivalent in the grid - they also have to complete the French word list on each page for extra spelling and vocabulary practice. The challenge gets more intense through the grids - students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid.
I always give answer keys to my word searches - that works really well in terms of helping students work and learn independently together without me, and gives them even more opportunity to engage with French.
There’s a reference list of all the French Christmas words too - this is a really useful support resource to ensure all learners can do the searches. They’ll have to look carefully at some of the words though - for a little extra challenge, sometimes I’ve changed words slightly - such as using ‘an elf’, where the reference list shows ‘the elves’.

GERMAN REFLEXIVE VERBS PRESENT TENSE
GCSE GERMAN KS3 GERMAN KS4 GERMAN REFLEXIVE VERBS PRESENT TENSE 25 high-frequency German reflexive verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for KS3 German KS4 German students who are beginning to work with compound sentences and longer texts, and generally developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation and tense in German. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom.
The workbook focuses on the correct conjugation of verbs, rather than usage, but I definitely find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, with the German present tense, I encourage students to look for patterns across all the verbs, such as the singular pronouns, including the pronoun man form being identical, pointing out also that man is commonly used in German, often also meaning we, unlike the pronoun one in English. Students do often try to conflate what they know about conjugation, and I frequently see attempts such as ich bin mich waschen for I am getting washed or similarly***ich mache / tue mich erinnern*** for I do remember.
The workbook comprises the following:
Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German.
Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations:
Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in German across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation.
Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in German, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in German.
Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding German verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt.
Notes & Next Steps template, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of German conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets.

French-speaking countries, capital cities and flags cards provide great learning opportunities for any appropriate age group, at any time of the school year! Students can develop their language skills, as well as their knowledge of both the French-speaking and wider world, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. There are 40 countries where French is an official language - this makes 40 flag (picture) cards, and 40 country with capital city cards (words), with 4 picture info cards showing the location of each continent where French is spoken, so 84 cards in total.
The flag cards also show on which continent the particular country is located, which really helps students understand the true scope of where French is spoken across the globe - every continent! There are also detachable country, capital city and combined country and capital city labels that students use to label the flags - the labels are definitely a lot of prep, but it’s worth laminating them before you cut them out - labelling is a really popular and successful learning activity, and the labels will last for ever when they’re laminated.
I use the cards in lots of different contexts, not only when we’re focusing on La Francophonie, such as starters, plenaries and back-to-school ‘jump back in’ activities, and with a very broad range of grades and ages. They’re great for introducing and consolidating knowledge about Les Pays Francophones, and they enable students work and learn independently, which my students really like to do. I’ve found that the cards also help my students develop their general understanding of world geography too.
There are lots of games that work really well, and I’ve described several here to get them started. The cards offer multi-skill language learning: spelling, reading, speaking, listening and pronunciation. It’s useful to give students the chance to work with the cards quite regularly - they genuinely enjoy the games, and it’s a good way of really embedding learning. I laminate the cards too, because they’re far easier to work with, and last in great condition for ages too, so definitely worth the extra prep time and expense.
There’s a reference list showing all the countries and capital cities with the corresponding flags, which works well both for this particular resource, but as a forever reference resource too.

There are 8 German to English grids, where students are prompted with the German word, and and look for them in German in the grid. There are also 2 English to German grids, where the prompt words are given in English, and students have to find the German equivalent in the grid. These 36 French Dates, Days, Months & Seasons Challenge Cards are perfect for advanced KS2 French and beginner KS3 French - I also use them for revision for my KS4 French students, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of this essential French vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions are useful for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in French in general, with grammatical concepts such as definite and indefinite articles, singular and plural, and gender agreement, and certainly in French dates, days, months and seasons in particular.
The questions are entirely in French, with some translation questions both from French into English, and English into French. It’s important to help students understand as soon as possible that translation does not mean simply exchanging word for word, and that languages do work in different ways to express the same things.
Generally, the questions all range in complexity and challenge, and some call upon prior knowledge too, helping students make links and build bridges in their learning. There may be some words students are not familiar with - these questions give them the opportunity to learn and apply new language too. Certainly, core language is repeated throughout in slightly different contexts to support and progress learning.

These activities really do help to create a lively language learning environment for young learners of French, and offer a popular alternative to more traditional, teacher-led***information about France*** lessons. Children can develop their knowledge of the francophone world - and through guided whole-group discussion - their home / host country too, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, in part independently of the teacher. There is a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling, and is a great way of aligning language learning with developing literacy skills in English.

20 facts cards - there are four facts in each of the following topic groups:arts & culture; country; famous people; history and language. There are blank templates for children to research and create their own facts cards for each other, and providing them with opportunity to apply learning and knowledge creatively. Over the school year, children should regularly add to their facts cards, which in time creates a fabulous bank of facts about France.
Facts recording sheet challenge level 1 - there are two options: either two or four fact recording boxes per page. Children read their selected facts, and copy the information in the boxes.
Facts recording sheet challenge level 2 - there are also two options: two or four fact recording boxes in this challenge level. However, there is a more open-ended task: responding to the question “What did you learn?”. This requires children to read their fact card, process the information, and then recreate it in their own words, describing the fact in the context of what they have learned.
24 question / comprehension cards — the questions have a differentiated range of challenge, and are based on the knowledge developed through the whole-group presentation and discussion, and the facts cards. There are some independent research questions, which I use as a springboard for further discussion based on children’s own developing interests about France. There are blank templates here too - creating questions is a great way to think about and apply knowledge and learning.

I created these differentiated Primary French animals bingo games, building in a range of challenges, to help my students engage happily with their French. They work just as well with older learners too! They really enjoy playing games, and these bingo games are perfect for developing listening, speaking, reading and writing/spelling skills. They’re also really useful for a focus on definite article and gender. The game isn’t actually about learning all the animals - 20 is too many in ‘one go’ - select your core vocab, with the additional animals useful for quick recall practice.

I developed SILENT BINGO to provide my students with an alternative way of practising their vocab and general language skills - select a grid type for students - picture-only, French word or English word. Using the SILENT BINGO files, show each slide at varying speeds. Students cross off the corresponding word or picture. There are 5 different games of each type: picture-only, French words, English words.

I've found having the posters in my classroom provides an instant introduction to the scope of the Spanish-speaking world, and seeing the countries where Portuguese, rather than Spanish, is spoken, prevents them confusing the two from the very beginning of their learning - my students do often tend to get them a little mixed up!
The posters are great for reading, speaking and pronunciation prompts too. I often ask quick questions such as ¿Cuál es la capital de...?, ¿Sí o no? Madrid es la capital de Paraguay? or ¿Se habla español o portugués en Brasil? - there are lots of questioning and speaking opportunities, using the posters as visual prompts. Speaking does tend to be quite a challenging skill, particularly for beginner language learners, so getting the most from classroom decor to encourage students to speak is really important. This works particularly with my beginner Spanish classes, as it's a great way of encouraging them to speak, and to construct sentences, from the very beginning of their Spanish program. I've often found that there can be several (or more!) countries that students don't actually know, or have never heard of, and the posters are really useful for helping them develop their general understanding and knowledge of the wider world.
There are two backgrounds to choose from: Spanish / Portuguese flag or plain. Laminate them if you can, as they hang really well, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last in great condition for years.

The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in Italian. The questions range in complexity and challenge in terms of language and calculation, though they are designed for advanced beginner Italian language learners, who will generally be more advanced in their maths skills.
The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and arithmetic creatively and practically too - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other. All the questions are in Italian, which really helps students develop language awareness skills, use their prior learning to progress current learning, and encouraging them to infer meaning from context.

These Primary Spanish animals display posters/flashcards create a fabulous Spanish look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote Spanish as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of Spanish, both primary and secondary. They introduce learners to a range of animals in Spanish from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with how Spanish words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. My younger Spanish students really love the animals posters, and like to compare the Spanish and English words. I’ve found that they also help very young children develop their growing understanding of the animal kingdom. We don’t necessarily learn all the animals, but we do use them for pronunciation and speaking practice, and for memory games too. They really give the classroom a great Spanish ambiance too. Students definitely notice the different words for a/an, and ask why some animals are un, and others are una. I’ve used this as a useful prompt to introduce the concept of gender. The posters work just as well as flashcards, which are great for introducing and practicing language in general (students don’t have to learn them all!), and for playing games to engage students with Spanish.
There are 20 animals using the masculine and feminine indefinite article, which again is a great opportunity to begin to compare Spanish to English. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as orso and lobo.
The animals are:

I always laminate my posters / flashcards as they hang a lot better, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last in excellent condition for years.

German Numbers 0-31 Challenge Cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of German numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping beginner German students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in German. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on German Numbers 0-31, but also for cover lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in German, but also to enjoy working with German, and to feel confident about doing so.
All questions are in German, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I've used visual prompts such as maths symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. Some questions focus specifically on German maths language, which students do not always engage with very often. The level of maths is fairly simple, but certainly draws on prior number and arithmetic learning.
The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and arithmetic creatively and practically, which is integral to successful language learning. My students also genuinely enjoy creating questions for each other.

I use the workbooks as classwork, as homework, as 'free choice' resources, holiday refresher and revision work, and also as focused activities for sub lessons. They really do work well in a broad range of contexts.
The verbs groups are:

I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example with the perfect tense, students need to have a good grasp of the relevant auxiliary in the present tense - there are verbs that require either haben or sein, so the focus on the auxiliary sein with this workbook helps to embed this concept, and to get used to ensuring that the past participle is situated at the end of the clause or sentence. Forming the past participle of a whole range of verb groups follows a certain pattern, which students are able to identify and predict the more they work with conjugation, and these quick conjugations will certainly help to embed that successfully.
The format is as follows:
